The European TWINNEDbySTARS project has been visited by the film crew of OCEAN, the monthly documentary series produced by Euronews in collaboration with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE). The episode, focusing on sea-friendly tourism, will be broadcast on July 6 in more than 160 countries.
The filming took place in Tenerife (Canary Islands) and in the Azores (Portugal), with the participation of two local nautical tourism companies: Biosean, from the port of Marina del Sur – Las Galletas, and Naturalist, from the Portuguese archipelago. Both entities showed how they integrate whale watching, acoustic technology and marine science to offer unique experiences of responsible ecotourism in the Atlantic.
These exemplary practices are serving as a basis for the design of new regional tourism products in the framework of the TWINNEDbySTARS project, which seeks to promote a sustainable and multi-destination model among the Atlantic outermost regions. It has been a great opportunity to show how SMEs in the maritime sector can lead the transition towards a more sustainable tourism.
The episode will be available online through the official website
