Co-creation workshops have been the meeting point for small and medium enterprises and other stakeholders related to the nautical tourism segment (charter, sailing, diving, whale watching, marine ecotourism, nautical schools, etc.) in the Canary Islands, Azores, Madeira, and Martinique. Together they have created tourism products that have aspects in common such as the promotion of the starlight condition of the Atlantic destinations, the charm of the sea, the commitment to circularity and knowledge as ways of sustainability.

Methodology

Good practices

During the workshops, success stories and inspiring initiatives, both local and international, were presented and served as a starting point to foster creativity and innovation.

Collaborative work

The collaborative work process started with an ideation phase, where brainstorming took place to generate key concepts related to the project. Based on the ideas generated in the ideation phase, thematic tables were formed to delve deeper into the different key areas of the project. The participants, grouped according to their preference, worked together to develop concrete proposals and solutions, using the business canvas model.

Product design

Based on the ideas that emerged from the thematic roundtables, multi-destination tourism product concepts were created, reflecting the union of the most salient ideas. After each working session, a group reflection was held to evaluate the progress and products created. Participants shared their comments and suggestions, which allowed the prototypes to be refined and a clear plan of action for their implementation to be established.

Self-assessment

The meetings also served to reach a consensus among the participants on the most pressing concerns and needs of nautical tourism businesses operating in each Atlantic region. A self-assessment survey was used to identify specific features of the participating small and medium-sized enterprises, which served as an input for the design of the TWINNEDbySTARS training sessions of 2025.
