From October 14 to 16, 2025, Martinique hosted a new session of TWINNEDbySTARS activities, bringing together representatives from the outermost regions to share experiences, training, and best practices in maritime tourism.
The program began on October 14 with a day dedicated to the presentation of tourism products and best practices, led by representatives from Dolphin & Whales, BIOSEAN, Nautic Ocean, and Terra Azul. During the session, the products Atlantic Star Adventures and Atlantic Internship Programme, both developed within the project framework, were presented.
Throughout the day, participants attended theoretical and practical training sessions with hydrophones, conducted by Misael Morales Vargas (BIOSEAN) and Jeffrey Bernus (Caribbean Cetacean Society), as well as a training session on Marine Starguide, led by Xavier Martínez (Nautic Ocean).
On Wednesday, October 15, TWINNEDbySTARS organised a morning of round tables to present project results to enterprises and key stakeholders in Martinique. Institutions and associations working in astronomy, biodiversity conservation, and cetacean research showcased their initiatives to protect the island — through education, research, and sustainable practices. The event encouraged collaboration between associations and businesses to foster a more sustainable tourism model.
That afternoon, participants experienced traditional yole sailing, thanks to Femmes et Hommes à la Barre, an association dedicated to preserving this iconic aspect of Martinique’s cultural heritage.
On Thursday, October 16, the day was dedicated to the presentation of products to Martinican stakeholders and to a tour through the northern part of the island. Participants explored a 100% solar-powered diving center before heading to the Musée Franck Perret, where they learned about the dramatic 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée and the resilience of the Martinican community. The day also included a visit to the Centre de Découverte des Sciences de la Terre (Maison des Volcans), where stargazing and educational activities combined science and culture.
The evening concluded at the Observatoire Volcanologique, where local enterprises and stakeholders joined the group for an astronomical observation session — accompanied by an open-air catering under the stars.
Finally, on Friday, October 17, outside the main program, the consortium was invited by the Cluster Maritime de la Martinique and the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique (CTM) to attend the Martinique Boat Show. The event showcased innovation, collaboration, and blue economy initiatives from across the Caribbean, providing an inspiring close to the week’s activities.
