The 15th edition of the International Sea Fair will take place at Muelle Sanapú in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from 22 to 24 May, with exhibitor registration still open.
Martinique will make its debut as guest territory at Fimar 2026, the Canary Islands’ leading event for the marine, maritime and nautical sectors. The Caribbean island, a French overseas region and EU outermost territory like the Canaries, will send a high-level delegation to the fair at Muelle Sanapú, fostering exchanges on the blue economy and the challenges of remote locations.
Outermost regions and the sea
Fimar’s theme this year, “Outermost Regions and the Sea”, underscores these territories’ strategic role in marine innovation, Atlantic cooperation and sustainable growth. Martinique exemplifies the push for a blue economy, with its 48,000 sq km exclusive economic zone, more than 50 times its land area, rich in biodiversity but vulnerable to climate change and human pressures.
The island is focusing on coral reef and mangrove conservation, wave and wind energy, sustainable tourism and resilient coastal engineering. Its presence opens doors for collaboration with the Canaries, both outermost regions (ORs) that benefit from EU support to offset disadvantages like insularity.
The TWINNEDbySTARS partnership
Martinique and Gran Canaria Starlight Destination are partners in TWINNEDbySTARS, coordinated by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’s TIDES Institute. The project boosts competitiveness in maritime tourism across outermost regions, including the Azores and Madeira, while protecting marine biodiversity and developing sea-based astrotourism.
Fimar will highlight Gran Canaria’s Starlight status, reinforcing the links between ocean, night skies and environmental protection, a core theme for TWINNEDbySTARS, which includes partners like the ULPGC’s Science and Technology Park, Canary Islands Maritime Cluster and Madeira’s Chamber of Commerce.
Countdown to Fimar
The fair, backed by Gran Canaria Council, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and Puertos de Las Palmas, and run by Infecar and the City of Sea Department, will showcase trends in recreational sailing, nautical gear, fashion, rescue services and more. It draws firms, researchers, officials, and sports groups, along with family activities like water exhibitions, children’s zones, and guided tours.
Exhibitor registration remains open via feriainternacionaldelmar.com/formulario-expositores.
