From October 14 to 16, 2025, Martinique hosted a new session of TWINNEDbySTARS activities, bringing together representatives from the outermost regions to share experiences, training, and best practices in maritime tourism.
The program began on October 14 with a morning of round tables where project results were presented to enterprises and key stakeholders in Martinique. Institutions and associations related to astronomy, biodiversity conservation, and cetacean research showcased their impressive work to preserve the island — some through research and education, others through sustainable practices. The event was highly enriching for the consortium, but especially for the enterprises, as it highlighted opportunities for collaboration between associations and businesses towards more sustainable tourism development.
In the afternoon, participants enjoyed a traditional yole sailing experience, thanks to Femmes et Hommes à la Barre, an association that works to preserve this important cultural tradition of Martinique.
During the sessions, participants also attended theoretical and practical training with hydrophones, conducted by Misael Morales Vargas (BIOSEAN) and Jeffrey Bernus (Caribbean Cetacean Society), as well as a Marine Starguide training session led by Xavier Martínez (Nautic Ocean).
On October 16, the day was dedicated to presenting products to Martinican stakeholders and visiting the northern part of the island. The program included a visit to a 100% solar-powered diving center, a tour of the Centre de Découverte des Sciences de la Terre (Maison des Volcans), and a stargazing session at the volcanology observatory with stakeholders and enterprises.
On October 17, participants had the pleasure of visiting the Martinique Boat Show.
The Martinique event continued the activities carried out by the project in the Canary Islands, Azores, and Madeira, aiming to strengthen cooperation among companies and organizations in the nautical and maritime sectors of the outermost regions.
