In the framework of the European Maritime Day in Cork, the European project TWINNEDbySTARS successfully organised the panel ‘From Isolation to Innovation: Boosting Maritime and Coastal Tourism in the Outermost Regions’, a session that brought together key experts from the sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities of sustainable ecotourism in these territories.
The workshop was attended by prominent speakers such as Christos Economou, Head of Unit at DG MARE A.3 of the European Commission; Anastasia Fourkiotou, archaeologist at Atlantis Consulting S.A.; Paal Janson, CEO of Dun Laoghaire Marina and representative of the Irish Marine Federation; together with representatives of the ecoRoute project, sister project of TWINNEDbySTARS, who presented their benchmark initiatives in the field of sustainable nautical tourism.
The panel addressed the barriers faced by the outermost regions in developing tourism products linked to the sea, while sharing innovative experiences and success stories that demonstrate the potential of these territories as living laboratories of sustainability and blue transformation.
Theworkshop was organised by our project partner, Álvaro Urdiales, from European Boating Industry, in collaboration with the Maritime Cluster of the Canary Islands and Consulta Europa Projects & Innovation, to whom we are particularly grateful for their coordination work.
TWINNEDbySTARS thus continues to reinforce its commitment to the development of innovative and collaborative maritime tourism, focused on the specificities of the outermost regions of Europe.
